"It was my husband, Chris Van Allsburg, a writer and illustrator of children’s books, who chose the Lion and the Ram for his Mezuzahs covers: the lion for its strength and the ram for its curled horns. Chris wanted the animal faces to hang straight on the door jamb, but Jewish law requires that the scroll be slanted. His solution was to build a slanted vessel on the back of each Mezuzah." - Lisa Van Allsburg
